Contains personal and business correspondence between Benjamin Thompson, master of the ship Great Admiral, and various family members and agents. The shipping letters include instructions, reports, and lists of disbursements to various shipping agents, including Col. Hubbard, attorney William Weld of Boston and Philadelphia, A. F. Freeman of Boston, George Croshaw of London, C. T. Russell of Liverpool and Vernon Brown of New York. The letters concern the trade in cargos including grain, California honey, and coal. They are posted from ports such as Hong Kong, Melbourne, the Western Islands, Queenstown, Plymouth, Havre, Cardiff, Vallejo, New York, and San Francisco.
